The Bang Conundrum…

Hey guys, Christa here. Every year around this time, when the weather gets cooler, the humidity goes away and the clothing gets cozier, the idea that *this is the right time for bangs* sneaks into my head. I did bangs once, in college (seen at the end of this post), but I just kind of hacked them myself. I’m thinking that if I actually go through with this, that I’ll set up an appointment and get them cut by a professional, ha.

Here are the photos I’ve been seeing that are making me crave bangs…

Or it might just be that I just want to be Alexa Chung…

What do you think? Should I do it?! It’s only hair 🙂

And because you were dying to see what I looked like with bangs (plus some side bang action) in college…

Metallic Dot Nail Art

gm_MetallicDotNailArt_2

Happy last day of November, lovelies! We’ll be festive & holiday themed in no time (…as in tomorrow…). But before we jump into gift guides and all things peppermint, we’re still loving ourselves some fall metallics, and thought we’d do a fun & easy nail tutorial! What we’re really digging about this is the subtle nude look, making it really versatile for any outfit color palette.

Follow instructions below!

You’ll need:

  • Nude or soft pink base — we used Essie’s Eternal Optimist
  • Metallic accent color with a subtle contrast — we used Penny Talk
  • Clear topcoat — we cannot recommend Seche Vite enough!
  • Toothpick
  • Wax paper or a plate

gm_MetallicDotNailArt_4

01.  Pour a small amount of your metallic color onto your wax paper or plate and set aside

02. Paint 2 coats of your base color and allow to fully dry

gm_MetallicDotNailArt_5

03. Once your base coat dries, use your toothpick to dip into the metallic paint

gm_MetallicDotNailArt_6

04. Gently dot 3 points onto your nails in a straight line

gm_MetallicDotNailArt_7

05. Once dried, apply your top coat, pop on the Netflix and allow to fully dry

06. Have a nail photoshoot!

AztecClayMask
Aztec Clay Cleansing Mask — I had seen a couple posts around the web about this mask and decided it was worth trying out, $8 come on! It’s been really fun! Curtis and I have used it a couple times now and it makes your feels unbelievably soft and smooth after. To be honest I haven’t seen much deep pore cleansing, but I don’t use it that often so I can’t be sure. I’m going to keep using it and see what else it has to offer!

TrilogyFaceLotionTrilogy Balancing Face Lotion — a close friend of mine who worked at Whole Foods got lots of beauty samples and would pass them my way once in awhile. This was one of them, and I’m obsessed! It smells great, feels great and has a non-greasy lightweight feel. I’m going to see how it transitions into winter, but I think it should be good!

kate2Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Lotion — This stuff has got some serious drying power. My skin was freaking out a little this past summer, and I was in need of something to clear me up quickly. I’ve never found a fast acting spot treatment that I’ve liked so much. The only down side is that it has a very strong alcohol-y aroma, and leaves a not-so-pretty pile of pink goop on your face, so it’s definitely a night treatment.

AndalouAndalou Naturals Lavender Thyme Body Lotion — Another Whole Foods find that I am so happy about! I have very dry skin and do not do enough to keep it happy. This lotion smells wonderful and goes on super well. I try to lather up as much as possible with this stuff!

sephora2Sephora Collection Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer — I’m a big concealer person. Christa and I always discuss the one makeup item we can’t leave the house without, and this guy is definitely mine. It blends in perfectly, and covers anything from big fatty blemishes, to old scarring. But for me, the real trick for natural-looking concealer, is a good blending brush.

stives
St. Ives Pink Lemon & Mandarin Orange Scrub — I have pretty sensitive skin and don’t usually do too well with drug-store brand products, but this stuff has worked really well for me for the past year. The tiny little microbeads do an awesome job of sloughing off dry skin, but it’s gentle enough that my face doesn’t have a freak-out. The best thing? It’s only around $7!

Have you guys been able to master the half-bun yet?! We haven’t, but damn we’re gonna keep trying! It looks so effortlessly chic and we’ve been seeing it everywhere (California, we’re looking at you.) It’s a great transitioning-to-fall look before it gets too chilly and we have to start wearing beanies full-time. Any tips or tricks for making it look so easy? We’d love to know!

Head-to-Toe Summer Beauty Rescues

Happy Monday back, everyone! While we’re definitely having some withdraws from our nice long weekend, we were lucky enough to spend some time outside, and maybe get a little burnt in the process (so bad, I know!!). When the seasons kick in full-throttle like this, it makes us realize how much we need to mix up our beauty routines. We’ve put together a little list to help us out, as this heat and humidity take a toll on us!

Loving Now // Burgundy Lips

We’ve been feeling awfully cooped up these days, and in ultra hibernation mode. While sitting on the couch with fuzzy socks and binge watching Nashville is all well and good, it can easily lead to feeling a little frumpy. Sometimes we gotta just force ourselves out of the house and onto the town. What’s a good way to push you into that? An edgy new beauty look.

Burgundy lips can be surprisingly versatile as far as style goes. Throw the color on with your leather (or faux) jacket and metallic earrings for a rocker look, a deep side part and waves for your inner 40s vixen, or try out a boho-etherial vibe with some braids or a felt hat. For you ladies with those big pouts out there, please do us a favor and give this velvety look a shot, so we can live vicariously through your show-stopping ways. This lip color positively screams dinner & drinks with the girls.

Headband-Tuck Tutorial

gm_Headband_8

If you ladies are anything like the two of us, sometimes you get a little lazy with your tresses, so we’re all about finding some quick and simple ways to throw it all up and get out the door faster. All you’ll need for this is a headband and a few bobby pins. This trick works really well for unwashed hair, so don’t be shy with the dry shampoo. Reg is a big fan of Dove, while Christa opts for Baptist for her dark hair, both should be available at the drugstore or Ulta.

Check out below for a step-by-step:

gm_Headband_2

// 01. If your hair is a little dirty, spray some dry shampoo and give it a good shake/rub down. Then position your hair in front of your shoulders.

// 02. Place your headband on top of the hair, so the base of the band is along the nape of your neck, with the hair underneath it (sort of like a crown).

gm_Headband_3

// 03. Pull your hair to one side, gently creating one large twist over your shoulder.

gm_Headband_4

// 04. Wrap your twisted hair around the base of the headband, as many times as it takes for the hair to be completely wrapped (mine took about three times). It’s okay if this looks a little messy, embrace it!

// 05. Taking your bobbies, tuck the crazies into your bun to hide the headband. Don’t worry about it being perfect and feel free to let some loose pieces hang.

gm_Headband_6.5

// 06. All done! Just position your front pieces as you like. If you have a little time and want to take the look up a knotch, heat up a curling iron to give your whispies a quick wrap about the barrel.
