Graduation Outfits

No, neither of us are graduating – but you probably know a few cousins, siblings or significant others who are. This upcoming weekend in Rhode Island, Christa’s brother is graduation from Roger Williams with a degree in Architecture (yay!), and she, Curtis, her parents, and both sets of grandparents will be there to celebrate. We’ve already had to deal with the graduation dress fiasco (what to wear??), but realizing that she’ll be in almost as many pictures as the graduate, the question about what to wear has come up again.

The biggest problem is weather. You never know what you’re going to get in New England in the beginning of May. Christa’s graduation was outdoors and POURING rain, while Regina’s was a nice day, but inside. Nick’s will be outdoors under a tent, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for that the mid 70’s party cloudy forecast that we saw today. We’re breaking down a couple Graduation activity outfits for you — the actual ceremony, the afterparty and Sunday brunch with the fam — but feel free to mix and match if one outfit seems more appropriate for your event. And most importantly, layer up, fuel up (pack extra snacks and water), and sunscreen up if you’re outside, because you’re going to be there for awhile!

There’s been a major trend lately of playing around with proportions and we’re loving it. This look nods to the 70s through the wide leg jean (a super flattering fit for any ladies with hips like us!), but keeps it modern with a structured crop top sweatshirt. Jeans like this are intended to elongate the length of your leg, so instead of getting them hemmed if they’re running a little long on you, try propping yourself up with some heeled booties. We made this look our own through some accessories: an ivory perforated belt, some faded gold jewelry, and a pop of color with a mustard bag. This look is funky yet streamlined, perfect for a little spice in your day-to-day look.
