How adorable is this popcorn costume?? Have you seen Studio DIY’s collection of DIY costumes? It’s pretty much her fall goal to create as many adorable costumes as she can each year — and she’s on point, per usual! We’ve been girl crushing pretty hard on her creative ideas… especially because most of them are food related! Here are some of our favorites from past & present:

Happy Weekend!

Well, it was a short week, but it sure didn’t feel like it! Reg has been tackling her move into the new place (yay!), and Christa has had a lot of exciting Connecticut Art Directors Club things going on this week and weekend. We’re just excited for a couple days off from work to tackle house projects, hang with friends and take it easy.

Btw- how was everyones Memorial Day?? This was one of the first years we both didn’t attend any sort of big bash or BBQ, but as you might have been able to catch — we’re crazy busy, so we didn’t mind!

cct // My Oma brought Curtis and I some purple basil for an apartment warming present and I’ve been searching for some fun recipes to use this unique looking herb! This Purple Basil Pesto looks damn good, especially on the bruschetta!

rkv // I’m not generally a heels girl, but I’m kind of obsessed with these

cct // This lady has got style – love her Free People profile

rkv // I’m sorry, what? Spicy chocolate-covered tortilla chips. Yep.

cct // Have you guys heard of reverse washing? It’s when you use conditioner first, and then shampoo – strange right?! This super informative article has got me very excited to give it a shot!

rkv // Some good tips on how to shop like an interior designer

cct // Our friend Tara (last mentioned here in her artist profile), has been posting photo diaries from her European travels, and we are now crushing hard on Dingle, Ireland ❤

Happy Friday, friends! It looks like it’s going to be very Fall-ish this weekend, unlike last weekend, and we’re pretty excited! Christa is heading up to Vermont to visit family and check out the foliage and Reg is making brunch with the ladies tomorrow, followed by who knows what!

We’ve got our usual links below. Have a fabulous couple days off! xo G&M

cct // Speaking of foliage, how’s your state doing? CT is getting there, but it probably needs about a week or 2 for peak colors. Vermont looks like it should be just right for our visit this weekend! You can check out the US here, and state by state estimation here.

rkv // 20 ways to style the classic white button-down

cct // I heard a snippet of Lena Dunham’s Fresh Air interview with Terry Gross, and came across some videos she made to promote her book, and I’m impressed! I was happily surprised that although she is similar to Hannah on Girls, she is a much more aware and less self absorbed in real life (from what I could tell haha). This video made me like her even more!

rkv // Love this idea for DIY mismatched painted flatware

cct // I need to do this. right. now! Such a perfect DIY for my little apartment!

rkv // I mean, just because it’s Britain’s smallest horse.

cct // I have such a thing for bedding, and it’s always great to find out more tips and tricks!

rkv // It’s October, so we can officially start thinking about Halloween costumes without seeming like the over-planners that we are. If you’re looking for some deas, here’s Buzzfeed’s “Which 90’s Halloween Costumer Should You Be?” quizz.

The Dog Years

Everyone talks about the “college years,” the “engagement years,” and the “wedding years,” but no one mentions the “everyone buys a dog years”. I know that’s kind of an odd statement, but have you noticed that everyone is getting a dog?? It might be more noticeable for us previous dog owners, since we grew up with a dog and now we’re settling into our homes with no pup wandering around.

The thing about getting a dog though, is that as much we want one so badly, we still don’t feel responsible enough for one. Is that bad? We’re in our mid twenties now, doesn’t that mean we should automatically be responsible adults? Part of us feels like we are, but then it’s like…welllll, I kind of want to go away this weekend, or suuure, I’ll go and get drinks right after work — but having a dog makes all of that complicated.

I guess part of being a responsible adult involves being responsible enough to know that right now, we can’t handle a dog. We should probably be able to keep house plants alive for at least a year before even considering it, amiright? Or maybe be able to comfortably pay a cable bill without cringing? Just a thought.

So for now, we’ll just enjoy our friend’s dogs (and those we find on pinterest)…

Favorite Fall Footwear

shoes

Shoes. Shoes shoes. Shoes. How we love them so. They just pull an outfit together so perfectly, and fall just screams for new footwear to fall into your lives. So without further ado, I present to you my top faves for this upcoming season:

01. Oxblood Penny Loafer // These menswear inspired little numbers will have you looking sharp and classy. But you may also need to get a pipe, readers, and bow-tie to pull the look together (jk, please don’t do that).

02. Heeled Ankle Bootie // Seriously though, what was I wearing in the fall before booties came into my life? I feel like they just recently came about, and quickly became a fashion staple. Hail to the bootie!

03. Nude Flats // How adorable are those scalloped edges? #icant. Nude flats are simply a must for ladies, and pretty much work year round.

04. Classic Black Heels // I have to admit I don’t have a single pair of classic black heels. Sinful, I know. But now that I’m officially in my mid-twenties (eek), I think it’s about time I get a pair. They just make your legs and bum looks so killer. I really want to wear these with some skinny denim and a plaid button up.

05. D’Orsay Flats // One of the latest trends in the world of flats is the d’orsay. For ladies with little feet like me, they do a great job of elongating your foot a bit to make them look more proportionate to your legs. I got a similar pair to these with a mini wedge from Marshall’s that I’m stoked to wear out.

06. Tall Leather Boots // I’m getting these. It’s official. I mean, that leather. AND they’re a wide-calf. It’s been an honest struggle for me to find boots to fit around my tree-stump like calves, so I’m really hoping these work out!

As we begin our gradual transition into fall (le sigh), our wardrobe must do the same. An easy way to do so is by adding some structure to your ensemble, yet continuing to show off that tan you’ve worked so hard for. Shorts and a blazer are a great way to do this, and the look can easily transition from day to night with a simple swap of the shoes. Shout out to Gal Meets Glam for inspiring us with this killer look!
