Fall is in full force now that it’s somehow the middle of October! The temps have finally lowered a bit and the sweaters are coming out. Before winter hits, we’re hoping to have the best fall ever…

Christa’s fall bucket list:
Hit up as many farmers markets as possible
Make donuts with my new donut pan (post coming soon!)
Figure out a storage system for storing my boots so they look this good next fall!
+ Actually watch Rosemary’s Baby this year
+ Travel to Boston more to visit Reg!
+ Hike more while the leaves are this gorgeous
+ Walk, instead of drive, to as many local things as possible
Finish Moby Dick by Thanksgiving

Reg’s fall bucket list:
Sunset wine on the Charles River with blankets
Hike Monad again!
Biking around the city
Make mulled spiked cider and wine
Walk the Arnold Arboretum
Teach a yoga class for my friends in the park
Get up early to take photos before the city wakes up
Bake all of the apple everything

What’s on your fall bucket list?

Honey Pot Hill Orchards

This past Saturday my galpals and I were full throttle New Englanders when we went apple picking at Honey Pot Hill Orchards. It was the last weekend that this farm would be open for picking, and basically a perfectly crisp and sunny fall day, so it was slight mayhem. So many children. So many squished apples under our feet. And so soo many times we were nearly hit by the hayrides (we apparently couldn’t tell the difference between walking paths and hayride paths).

I live with three other ladies, and we all love ourselves some apples, so we thought “yeah! Let’s get the big bag!” No. In retrospect, that was an overzealous decision on our end. We wound up having to swap who carried the bag every four minutes, with apples falling all over the ground, and eventually putting in the large Ann Taylor Loft shopping bag that we found in the car trunk. That bag is full, and now sitting on our kitchen floor because we have no where else to put it. Apparently I’m gonna have to make a lot more than the one muffin recipe I had planned out for this endeavor (I have this apple bacon brussels sprout guy in mind).

And then donuts happened. Oh my word did donuts happen. Probably the best donuts I’ve ever consumed. Pretty much just perfect in every way… warm, soft of the inside and crispy on the outside, with a cinnamon sugar coating. I shall dream of these donuts and tell stories of their wonderment.

Cider Bourbon High Ball

gm_AppleCocktail_7

A little while back, the folks from the wedding planning site Lover.ly reached out to us about a feature cocktail that would be a festive option for a fall wedding! Considering we love making ourselves some pretty drinks (see here and here), we were game!

We put our noggins together and came up with something that combines three things we just can’t get enough of — bourbon, apple, and bubbles! Check out below for our recipe!

gm_AppleCocktail_1

You’ll be needing:
(serves one)

1/4 cup bourbon
1/2 cup apple cider
1/4 cup ginger ale
4 ice cubes
a few pieces of diced apple
a sprinkle of cinnamon & nutmeg for garnish

To make:

01. In a mason jar or shaker, combine your ice cubes, bourbon, cider and ginger ale.

02. Put the top on, and shake it like a polaroid picture, or salt shaker, or any other hip hop song lyric of your choosing.

03. Strain into a glass and garnish with apples & spices!

Optional: for a little extra something special, twirl the rim of the glass in a little cinnamon sugar mixture!

Hope you guys are enjoying these crisp autumn days! If you end up trying this out, hashtag #gardeniasandmint, we’d love to see them! And make sure to check out other cocktail recipes on Lover.ly!
