Trashion Fashion Show

NoRaCupcake_TrashionFashion

Happy Monday! So, a few weekends ago I was able to be apart of an amazing Hartford event, Trashion Fashion, and I couldn’t wait to share my experience and the fantastic designs with you all! Amy, founder and previous neighbor has been putting on this exciting event for 5 years now, and I can’t believe this is the 1st I’ve been to it/been apart of it!

“Trashion Fashion is on a mission to contribute to a global reduction of waste through creative solutions.”

I was chosen last minute (only 1 week away from the show), to model the gorgeous commissioned NoRa Cupcake dress, one of the sponsors for the event. It was designed by Zoe Grinfeld, an up and coming fashion designer and high school senior who recently won Project Runway: Threads, who has been making clothing out of recycled materials for quite awhile now.

I arrived bright and early (7am, ugh) at Hartford City Hall where the event was taking place, and got my hair and make up done. I hadn’t seen my dress at this point and was really excited to see how everything was going to unfold. I also didn’t know until I got there, that my make up was going to be an “elevated look” meaning I was getting a little more done-up than some of the other models. I got my hair done by the amazing Rafael from La Bella Chateau, and my make up done by the super talented ladies at Tainted. Kat took over and killed it with the fantastic neon pink eye shadow, decorative black painted elements and sprinkle eyebrows (and shoulders!).

These teams did hair and make up for 70 (!!) models and we took over Hartford City Hall with fittings, runway walk training, photoshoots and more. It was such a unique and amazing experience.

But, without further ado – let’s check out some of the fantastic looks that Curtis was able to capture on the runway!

Happy Weekend!

Hello, dearies — hope you all had a lovely week, and have an even lovelier couple of days ahead of you. We’re stunned that next week is Thanksgiving. How did that happen??? It feels like as we get older, time goes by so much quicker. Are any of you all feeling similarly?

This past week our small home town in CT experienced some devastating news about a young mother, a member of our graduating class, who suddenly passed. In combination of learning this, of the troubling news in Paris, as well as world-wide current events  — it’s definitely resulting in some self-reflection. This week we’re feeling especially grateful for our friends, family, and the wonderful community that we were raised in.

While we have mushy hearts this week, we also still have our care-free nature about us. We’ve rounded up our weekly links for you all, hope you enjoy, and we’ll see you on Monday 🙂

An extra day off is music to our Mon-Friday-workin ears! If the weather is nice, round up those friends of yours and sit outside, light the grill and eats lots and lots of chips! Extra points if you can whip together a Pinterest worthy cocktail like above – cheers!

//02. Day Trippin’
The best part about living in New England is the easy access to wonderful places within driving distance. An extra day off can extend any weekend trip into something a little more! Check out the dunes on Block Island, explore the mansions in Newport, or head to the woods – you’ve got a whole extra day, use it!

//03. Bike Ride
Sometimes a quaint little bike ride is all you need to make your extra time off that much better. In Boston and CT we’re big fans of the Charles River and Farmington River Trail. Where you guys like to cycle around?

//04. Movie Day
With the weather as unpredictable as it is round these parts, we sort of always need a plan b. A movie day with delicious treats sounds like just the thing! Make yourself a little spread and just let yourself be shamelessly lazy!

//05. Picnic
Picnic in the park anyone? Don’t mind if I do! A chilled glass of white and a caprese sandwich with a book sounds like an extremely pleasant way to spend these final few weekends of warmth. Relax and live it up!

Old Lyme

Two weekends ago we spent some quality time with our old buddies in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Over the last couple of years our paths have taken us all to several different cities across the East Coast, so whenever we can manage big group hangouts, it’s always a blast. This year was nothing short of awesome — complete with lots o’ grilling, games, and goofballs. Take a looksie at some snap shots from our weekend retreat!

Sweet Beats // July 2014

These next couple of weekends are going to involve a whole lot of lounging in the great outdoors. This coming Friday Christa and I are heading up her to family’s home in rural New Hampshire, and the following weekend we’ll be hanging with old friends on the beach in Old Lyme, CT. Sometimes when things are this relaxed, I just want some twangy bluesy folky goodness to accompany me.

About Us

gm_aboutus

Hi friends! This might seem a little crazy, but we realized that we never really introduced ourselves! We started the blog on a random Sunday in November, and our about page hasn’t changed since that first write up…oops. We figured it was time to finally let you all know about who we are! The first step was getting a good picture of us together – we’ve been friends since 3rd grade, so I’m sure we have some good oldies, but with us being in different cities (Boston and Hartford, to be exact) we don’t have as many newer pictures of us together (without a cocktail in hand…). When we had our girls weekend a little while ago, we made a point to stop and grab a quick pic of us, and for once in our lives, we actually liked it! So – Reg is wearing the jean jacket, Christa is wearing the mauve army jacket, and together we’re Gardenias & Mint!

Our dealio:

Growing up in Canton, CT, we knew we’d be friends forever since the tender age of 8, when Regina approached Christa to let her know that her velvet shirt with a gigantic daisy on it was awesome. Thanks to the alphabetical order of our last names, we were locker buddies all throughout junior high and high school. About three years ago after college, Reg moved to Boston and Christa to Hartford. This past fall we decided that we wanted to collaborate on something fun and creative together, and we’re so happy we did!

Some fun things about us:
