Magical Pink Wall

Happy hump day, friends! We’re trying to brighten up this gloomy day with fun walls! If you’re in the Hartford area, you should check out these cheery murals (on the side of the road on Pope Park Highway) – there are green, purple and blue ones too!

With the weather finally cooling down, it was the perfect day to break out the clogs and a long cozy sweater. To be honest, this outfit is pretty much my uniform in the fall! I love classic neutrals with some gold jewelry and a fun shoe.

I was most excited about my DIY necklace though! I grabbed some thin leather from Michaels and tied myself a little chocker. Thinking about doing a DIY post with a couple variations of what you can do with the leather strips! Stay tuned!

We also mentioned awhile back that we are starting a monthly contributing post over at CT Eats Out, and we’re thrilled to start off with a gorgeous photoshoot to promote the Farm to Street Dinner happening in Hartford in a couple weekends! We partnered with Alycia from CT Eats Out & photographer Allegra Anderson to create 3 gorgeous and tasty recipes to get you inspired to pack your own dinner for the Farm to Street event. Find the recipe links below!

Trashion Fashion Show

NoRaCupcake_TrashionFashion

Happy Monday! So, a few weekends ago I was able to be apart of an amazing Hartford event, Trashion Fashion, and I couldn’t wait to share my experience and the fantastic designs with you all! Amy, founder and previous neighbor has been putting on this exciting event for 5 years now, and I can’t believe this is the 1st I’ve been to it/been apart of it!

“Trashion Fashion is on a mission to contribute to a global reduction of waste through creative solutions.”

I was chosen last minute (only 1 week away from the show), to model the gorgeous commissioned NoRa Cupcake dress, one of the sponsors for the event. It was designed by Zoe Grinfeld, an up and coming fashion designer and high school senior who recently won Project Runway: Threads, who has been making clothing out of recycled materials for quite awhile now.

I arrived bright and early (7am, ugh) at Hartford City Hall where the event was taking place, and got my hair and make up done. I hadn’t seen my dress at this point and was really excited to see how everything was going to unfold. I also didn’t know until I got there, that my make up was going to be an “elevated look” meaning I was getting a little more done-up than some of the other models. I got my hair done by the amazing Rafael from La Bella Chateau, and my make up done by the super talented ladies at Tainted. Kat took over and killed it with the fantastic neon pink eye shadow, decorative black painted elements and sprinkle eyebrows (and shoulders!).

These teams did hair and make up for 70 (!!) models and we took over Hartford City Hall with fittings, runway walk training, photoshoots and more. It was such a unique and amazing experience.

But, without further ado – let’s check out some of the fantastic looks that Curtis was able to capture on the runway!

For the Love of Cafés

We’re probably all feeling the same way these days when it comes to cozy-ing up on the weekends and being shamelessly mellowed out. Something about the middle of January just does that to us, huh? Lately all we’ve been wanting to do is curl up at local cafés, kindle in hand, latte on the table, and just unwind. How divine to these spaces look? Makes you want to design a little corner/oasis right in your apartment, doesn’t it?

We’re hoping that this New England snow storm is just mild enough that we can still meet up in Boston, but wintery enough that we can wander out and search for a cozy café like these…

And if you’re looking for some local cozy love – check out these lovely cafés in the Hartford area & Brookline/Boston…

In Conn., Dom’s Coffee, J.Rene Coffee Roasters, Sarah’s Coffee House, Tisane & Hartford Baking Company

In Boston, Tatte, Pavement, Thinking Cup & Caffé Nero

Happy Weekend!

Hello, dearies — hope you all had a lovely week, and have an even lovelier couple of days ahead of you. We’re stunned that next week is Thanksgiving. How did that happen??? It feels like as we get older, time goes by so much quicker. Are any of you all feeling similarly?

This past week our small home town in CT experienced some devastating news about a young mother, a member of our graduating class, who suddenly passed. In combination of learning this, of the troubling news in Paris, as well as world-wide current events  — it’s definitely resulting in some self-reflection. This week we’re feeling especially grateful for our friends, family, and the wonderful community that we were raised in.

While we have mushy hearts this week, we also still have our care-free nature about us. We’ve rounded up our weekly links for you all, hope you enjoy, and we’ll see you on Monday 🙂

Summer 2015 Movies

While summer movies are’t always necessarily Oscar worthy, they are just what they need to be – entertaining, exiting, and a way to veg out in some comfy seats & air conditioning. We’ve seen a couple of the films below, and were very happy with what we saw — what movies are you looking forward to this summer?

01. Ex Machina
We both saw this a few weeks back and completely loved it. An artistic yet thrilling view of technology in a world not too dissimilar from our own, this movie will definitely have you thinking about it long after you leave the theater. I believe the term “so meta” is completely applicable here.

spy-poster

02. Spy
We saw Spy a few weekends back when we were all together in Boston, and let me tell you, there were some hilarious spots. We looked over at each other a couple times, with tears in our eyes from cracking up so hard. And as mentioned before, it was just what we expected and just what we needed.

Jurassic_World_Teaser_Poster

03. Jurrasic World
Reg saw this last night and I’ll be seeing it soon – I mean, how can you not?! We re-watched Jurassic Park a few weeks ago and are pretty pumped to be back. Also, if you’re up for waiting until the credits, Christa’s dad worked on it (Doug Tubach), and he’s in the Visual Effects section somewhere 🙂

pitch-perfect-2

04. Pitch Perfect 2
This gloriously self deprecating flick has everything you want in a comedy sequel — it’s vulgar, blunt, and didn’t ruin your love of the first movie, yay!

love-and-mercy-poster-640x949-1

05. Love & Mercy
We had to throw one serious film in there, so your brain doesn’t become total mush! This biopic chronicles the rise and fall of one of music’s most iconic voices — Brian Wilson, front man of the Beach Boys. With two actors playing two different phases of Wilson’s life, it should be interesting to see how he’s portrayed in cinematic form.

And don’t forget about fun movie nights in the park! Most cities have them, and they’re always a blast! Hartford’s round up of movies starts this Friday and goes until Aug 21st, rotating Hartford Parks for the showings, while Boston has a whole list of spots to set up an evening picnic with friends!

Happy Weekend!

Hey all! Hope you’re all having lovely Fridays so far! Are your summer plans filling up as quickly as ours are? We got a lot coming up in the near future, so we’re taking this weekend to take it easy and enjoy this blissful weather. Hopefully you all get to do the same!

Hartford Prints!

Happy Monday friends! So, I’ve been hinting that I had gotten a new job a little while ago, and I’m so happy to announce that I’m the new designer for Hartford Prints! Reg & I had actually wanted to do a feature on them for awhile now (because they’re fantastic and rep Hartford in the best ways possible), but I’m even more excited to do it now because I have the inside scoop. They are a family run letterpress & design studio (besides us newbies – you can read about their super inspiring start here) who strive for unique ideas, creative excellence, and a fun atmosphere. And today I’m here to show you some of their fantastic work!

il_fullxfull.606038336_4qiqil_fullxfull.602416260_t5jpil_570xN.603676233_ng7jil_fullxfull.606199841_3pdxil_fullxfull.602478517_ss3yil_fullxfull.603616553_l9swil_fullxfull.606145907_f5pvil_fullxfull.603554128_f3dcil_fullxfull.607602428_aipgil_fullxfull.602494335_i3tc

All of these lovely items are found in their Etsy shop here, or in their downtown Hartford shop on 42 1/2 Pratt Street (definitely stop by, it’s adorable!). My new position will be helping with their ever expanding custom letterpressed wedding invitations/suites, logos, collaborative creative projects and hopefully some new cards (they’re just too cute). It’s been a wonderful 2 weeks with these gals so far, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds! Make sure you guys keep an eye on what we’ll be up to 🙂

About Us

gm_aboutus

Hi friends! This might seem a little crazy, but we realized that we never really introduced ourselves! We started the blog on a random Sunday in November, and our about page hasn’t changed since that first write up…oops. We figured it was time to finally let you all know about who we are! The first step was getting a good picture of us together – we’ve been friends since 3rd grade, so I’m sure we have some good oldies, but with us being in different cities (Boston and Hartford, to be exact) we don’t have as many newer pictures of us together (without a cocktail in hand…). When we had our girls weekend a little while ago, we made a point to stop and grab a quick pic of us, and for once in our lives, we actually liked it! So – Reg is wearing the jean jacket, Christa is wearing the mauve army jacket, and together we’re Gardenias & Mint!

Our dealio:

Growing up in Canton, CT, we knew we’d be friends forever since the tender age of 8, when Regina approached Christa to let her know that her velvet shirt with a gigantic daisy on it was awesome. Thanks to the alphabetical order of our last names, we were locker buddies all throughout junior high and high school. About three years ago after college, Reg moved to Boston and Christa to Hartford. This past fall we decided that we wanted to collaborate on something fun and creative together, and we’re so happy we did!

Some fun things about us:

Do you guys have any questions for us? We’d love to hear them! Leave us a comment or visit our about page and drop us a line!
