Sweet Beats // August 2016

We are so very close to our vacation time in Old Lyme, CT with our old pals, and we are beyond ready to soak up that sun with the gang. This kind of vibe definitely gets us into an upbeat poppy kind of mood, with of course a splash of indie because I just can’t help myself.

Sweet Beats // March 2016

I’ve been feeling pretty mellowed out these days. At work, on the train, putting on my makeup, cooking — all involve me listening to soft tunes and just overall taking it easy. I’ve always been into calming jives, but it seems a little elevated lately, and I’m rolling with it.

If you’ve been feeling similarly, then this playlist is for you. A combination of twang-y folk/indie guitar, and a little bit of synth-y sounds as well. Speaking  of which, did you guys know that Vanessa Carlton came out with an indie album last year? I just discovered it yesterday and can’t stop listening. You can check out one of her songs on my playlist as well.

Click here to give it a listen on spotify.

Band Profile // Cheerleader

CHEERLEADER

Have you guys heard of Cheerleader? If not, it’s time you oughta. We may be a little biased because they’re some of our best friends, but for real, their sound is just what you want on a sunny day. Known for their hazy indie pop tunes, they’ve been landing them some serious internet play, and have recently been featured on some of our favorite sites like Refinery29’s New Music September Nylon Magazine’s Band Crush.

Joe (middle) & Chris (2nd to the left) went to high school with the two of us in CT, and were biffies with Christa’s boyfriend Curtis long before she and him even began dating. Over the years they’ve been in all sorts of bands, and now Cheerleader is really crushing it. These gents just keep doing what they love, and it’s paying off.

Based out of Philly, they’re currently touring the North East — so if you have a chance to see them, we highly recommend it! They’re heading to NYC & Boston at the end of the month, but you can check out the other tour dates and locations here. Also make sure to take a look at their recent adds to iTunes!

Mostly, these playlists keep me company during my morning commute, which means easy listening. Not like, light 100.5 easy listening with Kenny G., but rather your indie guitar with soft vocal harmonies and such. I’m just a much more pleasant person in the morning if there’s calming music in my ears and a vanilla latte sprinkled with cinnamon in my hand. Is that so wrong? I didn’t think so.

So friends, if you too need a little soft musica in the morning, click here to listen on spotify.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been a bit of a stress-case these days. Maybe it’s my end-of-summer melancholia? Whatever the reason, soothing folk/indie kind of music just has a way of easing my nerves and bringing me back to reality. Few things make me happier than a long walk in late summer with warm sounds ringing in my ears.

Hope you all find this month’s playlist equally tension relieving.

Sweet Beats: January ’14

Being in the new year and all, I decided to bring you new(er) music. By newer, I mean anything not made in 1963, as I tend to so often do. Everything you’ll be listening to from this list was made sometime after 2005 (because clearly I’ve kept up with the times), and follows along with the indie-girl-pop music I’ve been very fond of lately. Join me, won’t you?
