Loving Now // Statement Tile

We are definitely suckers for a loud statement tile, and it seems like it’s popping up everywhere lately. It’s also a surprisingly versatile (pun non-intended) element to add to your space. While kitchens and bathrooms are the typical rooms you’ll see it in, it can also be seen in entry areas, and even on staircases.

Real ceramic tiles sadly can cost a pretty penny, and for us renters, that really doesn’t make much sense at all. But luckily there are all sorts of reasonable priced options that are easily removable, like here, here, and for something more classic/minimal here.

Hello loves, we hope your Good Friday is off to a good start! Any fun plans for Easter? I’m off to New Hampshire & Reg is hanging with her ladies. My cousin Rachel pinned these eggs and we’re obsessed with them! I think we’ll be giving them a try this weekend 🙂 Are there any other awesome Easter DIYs you guys are planning on getting into? We’re still in love with our post from last year! Enjoy the holiday and have a wonderful weekend! xo

Happy Weekend!

Hello dearies — what’s everyone up to this weekend? Christa and I have been feeling pretty tangled in a million different webs these days, and can’t help but look forward to catching on up doing things that settle us back into ourselves. I personally would love to go to yoga and perhaps bake something, two things that always help me in feeling centered and grounded. Hope you all have beautiful weekends, see you on Monday!

cct // We as bloggers really know this is true about Instagram & photography in general, but it’s always nice to remind ourselves that there are some days that you can fake it, and some days that it’s ok that you can’t (let’s just live in the moment a little more, right?).

rkv // The upcoming sweater weather also calls for a new fall book list, yay!

cct // I’m traveling to California for 6 days in early October and encountering 2 extremes – blog hang out at the Ace Hotel, and hiking in Joshua Tree – so I am welcoming these tips & tricks on packing a suitcase well. Btw, I’m only taking a carry on rolling suitcase and a tote – eek!

rkv // Oh right, Halloween is also around the corner, and this is adorable

With an unexpected day off on Monday (MLK, Jr. Day), we’re seeing some cooking and cleaning in our future. We’re finally pulling ourselves back together after the whirlwind of the holidays, so this extra day will certainly be helpful! Hope you all have a good one!

Getting Organized // For the Home

Nearly everyone has “get organized” on their New Years resolution list…there’s just such a great feeling about starting the new year off feeling clean, collected and organized! It’s sort of like the precursor to Spring Cleaning. And since we live in apartments with one or more other people, the idea of personal space and organization is extra important. We’ve gathered a couple of our favorite ways to quickly spruce up your space and stay on top of things as possible!

01. Shelving

8aa2759cf23384f69943697babcfaf01

Adding shelving can do a lot to a space, whether you add it directly to the wall, or in the form of some sort of furniture. We’ve had the best luck with wall shelving from Ikea, which also allows for a ton of DIY and personalization. Shelves are perfect for finding a home for those small meaningful items that you just can’t give up, showing off personal items you might accidentally tuck away in some drawer. They add visual interest to your walls, all while adding more storage to your space. If your space is small, just work upwards!

Our favorite shelving items: The EKBY JÄRPEN from Ikea, pretty much anything from West Elm, and the Emerson Shelving from World Market are all life savers.

02. Hooks & Rods

Picture 1

Hooks are helpful for all sorts of things! Necklaces, scarves, jackets (obviously…), and even pots & pans. It’s a little nuts how much space you can clear up just by putting a few hooks or rods on the walls. Have empty space above your stove? Hang up your cookware! Jewelry always tangled? Display it on your walls by your vanity!

For some awesome hooks: Check out Crate & Barrel’s Sheesham Hooks, this classic look from Target, or Ikea’s LEKSVIK. We’ve also had some great luck at flea markets and thrift stores finding some old iron hooks.

As for rods: Add some more hanging space to your closet with Ikea’s MULIG clothes bar, and change your life with this pot rack and these s-hooks in your kitchen.

03. Baskets

2

If you want to hide clutter, baskets are the way to go — they’re probably the easiest way to do a quick sweep in your apartment. Get some big canvas ones for blankets, towels, and linens, and some small wicker ones for random toiletries, magazines, and any other random bits. Reg’s kitchen has a wire basket for fruit, so you can always see what you have.

Great basket finds: Home Goods always has a plethora to choose from, or check out H&M’s home section, and of course, the almighty Ikea.

Loving Now // Wall Paper

We grew up in a time when wall paper was terrible… dated floral and patterned ceiling boarders, but times have changed. We are seeing wall paper being used in all sorts of stylish new ways with exciting new imagery. Check out some of our favorites these days…

Patio Envy

Since we both grew up with lush backyards and now live in cities, we are always on the lookout for great outdoor space. Unfortunately neither of us has any yet, but that’s ok – we can invite ourselves over to peoples houses (porches/patios/yards) whenever possible and browse pinterest until we cool down in the AC. Someday though…someday…

If you’re reading this and you have a lovely outdoor space to retreat to – we are extremely jealous (use these pics as decorating inspiration), and if you are in the same boat as us, check these out and pretend you’re there!

Love Want Need // Patio Chair & Cocktail Glass

Gm_LoveWantNeed_Patio

For us, summer time means a whole lot of what we like to call mega porch hang. Coined in the summer of 2013, the verb involves the act of lounging on a porch, patio, lawn, beach, etc, indefinitely. Often associated with hotdogs, cocktails, and sunglasses, mega porch hanging has become a fan favorite amongst millennials alike.

In order to achieve this high-level of lounging properly, one must do so in style. Thank goodness for retailers who help us so greatly with our endeavors!

Room Refresh // Summer Lodge Bedroom

Although we’re approaching summer and the idea of a cozy cabin isn’t as strong as it was a month ago, who can resist a bedroom that is one with nature and has comfy fabrics to boot? People should be opening their summer homes and cabins for the season soon, so think more along the lines of linen sheets, vintage wall paper and breezy windows – pretty great huh?

c61bd03896262b9fd09ded7ebebd2e8b 911555d4ca358f074c2fd6589c2f95db  b13a6289c225ae677bea5b2811faa4a8 697fd1bcf71c01de005d1d0014df56b7 02146d97c97f5db560152dc501886bc0fbc9580542974ada70bf5269c80f629b 7cac890a0110597ba968bd9d3aa9b52a
{image sources: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7}

And of course we know that there is a fine line between old & dated, and cool & vintage. It’s about mixing actual vintage with updated vintage looking items, adding the right amount of texture and pattern, and the quality of your pieces. Vintage blankets are nice until the mice got to it and you now have huge holes…toss it, you won’t look more authentic, you’ll look scrubby. So keep up with your cabin look and people will be inviting themselves over summer after summer!

Room Refresh // Minimal Bedroom

We’re spinnin’ off of our minimal living room feature from a while back with the bedroom version today! In case you forgot the basics, the key elements to this look are white on top of white, with some beige and wood grain, and more white. But you definitely can add a splash of color here and there if you’re feeling a little saucy. The root of this look focuses on stripping down from the unnecessary, and honing in on the lines and beauty of the individual statement pieces. The best part about this look? Fewer knick-knacks = fewer items for dust to build up on – yayy!
