Christmas Eve Cocktails

With the hustle & bustle of Christmas going on around you, why not take a moment tomorrow evening to chill out with a friend or family member you haven’t seen in a while, and make them a festive cocktail? These four actually seem to embody almost all of the flavors that remind us of winter — citrus, rosemary, gingerbread, and peppermint — yes, please! So put on your party dresses, dust off your shakers, and have a very happy holiday!

In case you missed it, last year we rounded up four delicious looking cocktails as well. It’s becoming a bit of a new Christmas tradition 🙂 .

Holiday Host & Hostess Gifts

We’re finally at the short week we’ve all been waiting for! And we are so excited to have some down time with family & friends. Not sure about you all, but for the past few years we’ve been feeling more and more like adults. We can discuss careers with our families at get togethers (and actually be semi-knowledgable), eat brussel sprouts voluntarily, and choose to have breakfast and coffee with our family on Christmas morning before opening gifts. It’s a nice change of pace to feel a little more mellowed out right before the holiday, and not anxiety-ridden about not falling asleep or else Santa won’t come.

But if there’s one thing that adults do for one another, it’s bring a gift for your hostess or host. It’s makes that person feel appreciated and special, and shows that you aren’t just there for the free food 🙂 And while a nice bottle of wine or beer will always be a wonderful gift, we’re looking at some nontraditional gifts for this holiday season. Here’s some things we’ve been eyeing that we know our party-throwing pals would appreciate:

Etsy Round Up // Vol. 17

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Although the weather wasn’t great, our company was! A weekend full of friends and fun. We had at least 2 people sleeping over on both Friday & Saturday night, and it was perfect. All that entertaining got me excited for the rest of the summer – sitting out on the deck, having drinks with friends, and staying up late. This month’s Etsy Round Up reminds me of those things. Take a look yourself…

Although I have no connection to Virginia, this print (along with the Kansas, New York and California prints) are beautiful! My parents have a gorgeous dogwood in the front yard, so maybe that’s why I like it so much 🙂

I must say, I was very excited when I went online last night to see that Leon Bridges had finally released his first album. A few months back I heard a couple EPs and was totally swooning. He was pretty much plucked out of 1956 and I’m so into it. I decided to make an entire playlist based on a similar sound — retro, soul, funk, doo-wop, with a tiny bit of grit at times. The timing is perfect because this coming Saturday, Christa will be having a house-warming party in her new digs, and I’m thinking this list will be perfect while we’re getting things set up.

This weekend we’ll be throwing a big birthday bash for several friends/roommates in Boston, so naturally I’m in party playlist mode. I will warn you, this mix is pretty random. You may think at one point that I’ve gone a little mental, but it’s pretty much just a sample mix of a much more epically-scaled one that I’ve created for the night-of. I spared you all of the Whitney Houston and Bruce Springsteen, but that’s not to say that they won’t be played. OH, they’ll be played.

Etsy Round Up // Vol 15

Guys, I went to a lovely concert last night (Sufjan Stevens), the weekend was wonderfully warm & I finally started refinishing a table for my new apartment that I’ve been meaning to revamp since college (4 years ago…), so let’s say that April is off to a good start! And this is why April’s Etsy Round Up is fun, colorful and inspiring! Let’s jump into spring with a bang!

Simple Seasonal Decor

Now that we’re a whopping three days into December, we have minimal time to get that seasonal decor up around our apartments. Since none of us have the time (or electric bill means) to deck-out our home exteriors with lights… we’re down for some simple inside DIYs to make things festive!

Cider Bourbon High Ball

gm_AppleCocktail_7

A little while back, the folks from the wedding planning site Lover.ly reached out to us about a feature cocktail that would be a festive option for a fall wedding! Considering we love making ourselves some pretty drinks (see here and here), we were game!

We put our noggins together and came up with something that combines three things we just can’t get enough of — bourbon, apple, and bubbles! Check out below for our recipe!

gm_AppleCocktail_1

You’ll be needing:
(serves one)

1/4 cup bourbon
1/2 cup apple cider
1/4 cup ginger ale
4 ice cubes
a few pieces of diced apple
a sprinkle of cinnamon & nutmeg for garnish

gm_AppleCocktail_3

To make:

01. In a mason jar or shaker, combine your ice cubes, bourbon, cider and ginger ale.

gm_AppleCocktail_6

02. Put the top on, and shake it like a polaroid picture, or salt shaker, or any other hip hop song lyric of your choosing.

gm_AppleCocktail_9

03. Strain into a glass and garnish with apples & spices!

Optional: for a little extra something special, twirl the rim of the glass in a little cinnamon sugar mixture!

Hope you guys are enjoying these crisp autumn days! If you end up trying this out, hashtag #gardeniasandmint, we’d love to see them! And make sure to check out other cocktail recipes on Lover.ly!

Happy Weekend!

happyweekend{image via}

Happy Friday, everyone! We hope your 4 day work week treated you well! This picture above has officially sparked a DIY list (that bench tho…) and I don’t even want to know how expensive it is – so plans will be made to figure out how to make it! And since it’s the last Brimfield weekend of the year, projects and trinkets are on our minds! If you can brave the heat and possible rain on Saturday (good luck!) we’re thinkin’ Sunday looks a little better!

Have a fab weekend, friends! xo G&M

St.Patty’s Day Get Ups

With St. Patty’s weekend almost in full swing, we realized adding the appropriate amount of green to an outfit can be hard. It’s fun to get a little festive, but green isn’t always the most flattering color. Luckily army green and hunter green are in right now! We’ve put together a few outfits for some very possible St. Patty’s day activities that require a little green, so it won’t look like a Leprechaun attacked you…

gm_StPattys

Parade // St.Patty’s Day in New England can still be a little chilly, especially when you’re outside all morning watching a parade. But this actually can work in our favor, because our bit of green is in this awesome army green parka. So throw this on after you’ve crafted a cute but comfy outfit to walk around and drink beers in. This tote is big enough to toss the jacket into if you’ve warmed up (liquid jacket anyone?) but make sure to keep it poking out a bit so you don’t get pinched!

// Peter Pan Tee // Sunnies (which I’m obsessed with and need to buy asap) // Parka // Vegan Leather Tote // Baseball Cap // Flats // Boyfriend Jeans //

gm_StPattys_brunch

Brunch // For the ladies who brunch, it’s all about comfort and ease. These cargo pants and their jazzy little zippers stand out, while the flowy tank will allow lots of leeway for your big Irish breakfast. Sneakers tone down your gold hardware, and a brown oversized cross body will make it easy to steal the extra biscuits from the bread basket.

// Jean Jacket // Tank // Cargo Pants // Necklace // Cross Body Bag // Sneakers //

gm_StPattys_drinks

Drinks // This lacy frock is easy to dress up or down, and perfect for a night of drinking some green beer with friends (last year we went with green champaign, because we’re classy). You’ll feel slim and sassy in some black skinnies and ankle booties, while staying practical with a light jacket and satchel.

// Lace Shirt // Quilted Jacket // Leather Booties // Necklace // Black Jeans // Cross body Bag //

How are you guy celebrating this year? Let us know!
