January Moodboard

gm_Jan17_MoodBoard.jpg

Happy Monday, loves! I have to say, although I like pink, it’s not my usual go-to, but this whole getting married thing has got me extremely lovey & girly ☺️. I’m loving the warm, romantic pinks as a contrast to the stark white and blue landscapes I’m seeing in Colorado right now (also amazingly beautiful in their own way!!). Xo

November Moodboard

gm_nov_moodboard_3

What a perfect fall day – crisp and sunny! We’re feeling inspired by the calm neutrals of fall, which are very much appreciated on such a nerve wrecking week! Hopefully everyone had a great weekend and is ready to vote tomorrow! I’ll be voting after work and then joining my mom and grandparents for pizza to make us all feel better 🙂 and then will be heading to Real Art Ways in Hartford for an election night event, where they open up their theater to live coverage – with much needed wine!

What a beautiful Friday! The sun is out, and we’re hoping it stays that way for the long weekend! Christa is heading up to New Hampshire and Reg is chillin in Boston to go apple picking/cider donut eating with her gal pals. We’ll both continue to binge on the new Bon Iver album – which is amazing. What are y’ll up to?

Chic Easter Egg Decorating

Just saying “chic Easter egg decorating” sounds a little funny – Easter eggs tend to be boring pastels or over saturated kid colors, aka not that interesting. But these days, with DIYs all over the place, people have been sharing their amazingly unique and beautiful alternative Easter egg decorating – and we’ve put together some of our favs!

PS. Click here for a tutorial for prepping your eggs before decorating

// Natural & Whiteegg1

We love this simplistic spin on egg decor. All you need in a white-out pen and some patterns!

// Marbleized

egg4

Grab three nail polishes (probably ones you don’t use often!) that compliment each other well. In a tall tupperware container, fill up the bottom with water, just enough to cover the surface. Pour a couple drops of each nail color in the water, and gently swirl with a skewer to create marble pattern. Carefully place the egg into the water until covered, then quickly pull it out and set aside to dry. Repeat for each egg.

// Spray-Painted Pattern Play

egg6

Using painters tape, yarn, or doilies, cover each egg. Spray each with desired paint and allow to dry!

// Gold-leaf

egg3

Dye your eggs as your ordinarily would. Allow to fully dry, then cover with a thin coat of crafting glue like Elmer’s. While the glue is wet, cover each egg with a gold leaf metal sheet (available at most craft stores). Gently use your fingers to smooth out the surface. Allow the metal to peel exposing the cracks. And that’s it!

// Black & White

egg5

White eggs. Sharpie. Imagination. Done.

// Watercolor

egg2

Prep your eggs using 50/50 water:vinegar and wipe on each egg. While they dry, prep small cups with your favorite water colors (about 1/4 cup for each). Holding your egg over a bowl or container, use a spoon to pour your lightest color over the egg, rotating as you pour. Repeat on each egg. Allow each to fully dry, then repeat with the second darkest color. Continue until each color has been used. Allow to dry and admire your work!

// Opaque paint

egg7

Using pastel acrylic paint colors of your choice, use a small brush to make little painterly dashes on dyed or un-dyed eggs. Allow to dry and you’re all done!

Hope you guys are feeling inspired by some of our favorite eggs. Now go eat some candy, and hop to it! Pun intended.

Room Refresh // Eclectic Living Room

If you’re anything like me, every so often the rooms in your pad need a little refreshing. I currently live in a pretty big place with three other ladies, so filling it up has been a bit of a process. This past weekend, we finally decided on teaming up to beautify the place, so we went to Ikea, and had a field day. The trip inspired a new series for G&M on affordable room updates – Room Refresh.

This month’s Room Refresh focuses on living rooms and our first theme is the “Eclectic Collector.” Christa and I are big fans of mixing and matching colors, prints, and textures. When we team up at Goodwill, it’s actually a little frightening for the employees, because we go nuts. The eclectic lady loves jewel tones, mixing organic with industrial, and pattern pattern pattern. In order to keep this all in check, it’s important to balance the looks with plenty of neutrals. Here are some designs to inspire your search:

These looks are all about finding pieces that speak to you, and just rolling with it. If you’re in the market for a room update and consider yourself a collector of sorts, here are some pieces to kick off your hunt:

Winter Darks

gm_WinterDarks_1gm_WinterDarks_2gm_WinterDarks_34_copygm_WinterDarks_5gm_WinterDarks_6

I know “Winter Whites” are really in right now – and I think they’re adorable – but I would have been lost against this bright white snow! Winter Darks are still great in my book, and I love being able to mix and match black and brown with added accessory pops. A chunky hat, patterned gloves and a texture purse were just what I wanted to bring attention to my dark ensemble. I was a little more dressed up than usual for a winter romp through a snowy park, but my boyfriend Curtis and I had just come from the New Britain Museum of American Art to see the Maurice Sendak exhibit when we stumbled upon Walnut Hill Park right behind the museum. I can’t wait to explore it in the spring/summer when it’s lush and green!
