Travel Diary // Portland, Maine

img_3273

Oh Maine, you’re so good to our bellies and souls. Such a pretty little city with such amazing food and sites. My group of close gal-pals in Boston have some big changes coming up (with one of them moving back to England next month, nooo!), so we decided to take a mini girl’s weekend vaca to have something memorable in the books.

We drove in Saturday morning and arrived just in time to grab an AMAZING lunch at Even Tide Oyster Co. Have you guys ever had a Bubbly Mary? Being that it’s prosecco and Bloody Mary mix, it sounds a little funky, but as their menu described, don’t knock it till you try it, because it was a killer pairing with my insanely delicious lobster roll. The lobster roll was less traditional than I’m used to, in that it came on an Asian-style bun, but ended up being one of the best I’ve ever had (which is quite a few!).

We then putzed around town just to see the sites and bop into the local shops. This peacock chair was HUUUUGE and I wanted it.

The above photo was taken in a store dedicated to Scandinavian design and food, which was total eye candy.

^ Just a straight up silverware collection, but I thought it was pretty 🙂

After lots of walking, we swung into Central Provisions to grab a pre-dinner bottle of wine and some snacks. We ended up sitting at the bar right as the early-dinner crowd came in and it was glorious. All of the food looked so beautiful, with a lot of care and detail that goes into it. We split a small flatbread, but wish we had more! We felt silly knowing that we had our full dinner coming up elsewhere in just a few hours!

We grabbed a more casual dinner at David’s where I got the shrimp and scallop screwers. Perfectly charred with a delicious tomato puree underneath. It hit the spot for sure.

The next morning I woke up super early (because we had PASSED OUT from being tired from all of the walking the day before) and I took a walk around town and grabbed some coffee at Bard Coffee with my roommate. Really high quality coffee, nice and nutty with a bold kick.

Above: an AMAZING chai donut from the Holy Donut

Lastly before heading home we checked out the beautiful Portland Head Light. The weather was perfect for it, and we had a really fun time doing the cliff walk and exploring the nearby fort ruins in the area.

Have you guys been to Portland? Any other recommendations for the next time we stop by? xo

For the Love of Cafés

beb8d50e21f582f355498059085faff8

We’re probably all feeling the same way these days when it comes to cozy-ing up on the weekends and being shamelessly mellowed out. Something about the middle of January just does that to us, huh? Lately all we’ve been wanting to do is curl up at local cafés, kindle in hand, latte on the table, and just unwind. How divine to these spaces look? Makes you want to design a little corner/oasis right in your apartment, doesn’t it?

We’re hoping that this New England snow storm is just mild enough that we can still meet up in Boston, but wintery enough that we can wander out and search for a cozy café like these…

And if you’re looking for some local cozy love – check out these lovely cafés in the Hartford area & Brookline/Boston…

In Conn., Dom’s Coffee, J.Rene Coffee Roasters, Sarah’s Coffee House, Tisane & Hartford Baking Company

In Boston, Tatte, Pavement, Thinking Cup & Caffé Nero

Metallic Dot Nail Art

gm_MetallicDotNailArt_2

Happy last day of November, lovelies! We’ll be festive & holiday themed in no time (…as in tomorrow…). But before we jump into gift guides and all things peppermint, we’re still loving ourselves some fall metallics, and thought we’d do a fun & easy nail tutorial! What we’re really digging about this is the subtle nude look, making it really versatile for any outfit color palette.

Follow instructions below!

You’ll need:

  • Nude or soft pink base — we used Essie’s Eternal Optimist
  • Metallic accent color with a subtle contrast — we used Penny Talk
  • Clear topcoat — we cannot recommend Seche Vite enough!
  • Toothpick
  • Wax paper or a plate

gm_MetallicDotNailArt_4

01.  Pour a small amount of your metallic color onto your wax paper or plate and set aside

02. Paint 2 coats of your base color and allow to fully dry

gm_MetallicDotNailArt_5

03. Once your base coat dries, use your toothpick to dip into the metallic paint

gm_MetallicDotNailArt_6

04. Gently dot 3 points onto your nails in a straight line

gm_MetallicDotNailArt_7

05. Once dried, apply your top coat, pop on the Netflix and allow to fully dry

06. Have a nail photoshoot!

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday, loves. How has everyone’s week been? Has your personal clock settled into daylight savings yet? While I really don’t look forward to the darker evenings, I will admit that waking up to a brighter morning has been nice. I’ve been rising before my alarm on most mornings, which is so much more pleasant than the sound of an alarm. It also helps me to get a little more done earlier in the day on the weekends. I’m going to try to get to a morning spin class tomorrow. Considering I much prefer working out in the evenings, we’ll see how that goes! Hope you all have a beautiful weekend ahead of you. See you on Monday!

Loving Now // Current Favorite Products

AztecClayMask
Aztec Clay Cleansing Mask — I had seen a couple posts around the web about this mask and decided it was worth trying out, $8 come on! It’s been really fun! Curtis and I have used it a couple times now and it makes your feels unbelievably soft and smooth after. To be honest I haven’t seen much deep pore cleansing, but I don’t use it that often so I can’t be sure. I’m going to keep using it and see what else it has to offer!

TrilogyFaceLotionTrilogy Balancing Face Lotion — a close friend of mine who worked at Whole Foods got lots of beauty samples and would pass them my way once in awhile. This was one of them, and I’m obsessed! It smells great, feels great and has a non-greasy lightweight feel. I’m going to see how it transitions into winter, but I think it should be good!

kate2Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Lotion — This stuff has got some serious drying power. My skin was freaking out a little this past summer, and I was in need of something to clear me up quickly. I’ve never found a fast acting spot treatment that I’ve liked so much. The only down side is that it has a very strong alcohol-y aroma, and leaves a not-so-pretty pile of pink goop on your face, so it’s definitely a night treatment.

AndalouAndalou Naturals Lavender Thyme Body Lotion — Another Whole Foods find that I am so happy about! I have very dry skin and do not do enough to keep it happy. This lotion smells wonderful and goes on super well. I try to lather up as much as possible with this stuff!

sephora2Sephora Collection Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer — I’m a big concealer person. Christa and I always discuss the one makeup item we can’t leave the house without, and this guy is definitely mine. It blends in perfectly, and covers anything from big fatty blemishes, to old scarring. But for me, the real trick for natural-looking concealer, is a good blending brush.

stives
St. Ives Pink Lemon & Mandarin Orange Scrub — I have pretty sensitive skin and don’t usually do too well with drug-store brand products, but this stuff has worked really well for me for the past year. The tiny little microbeads do an awesome job of sloughing off dry skin, but it’s gentle enough that my face doesn’t have a freak-out. The best thing? It’s only around $7!

{Almost} Fall Beauty Trends

Guys, 2 days from now it will officially be fall! Now that things are cooling off a bit and our faces won’t be melting off, it’s a perfect time to get a little funky with fun trends in the beauty department. Some big things we’re loving at the moment  —sharp cat eyes, smudged smokey shadows, vampy lips, rose-y cheeks & puckers, minimal nail art, romantic updos, fringy bangs with piece-y ends, braids galore, and balayage highlights.

What’re you all feeling at the moment??

Happy Weekend!

Guys, it’s Fridayyy! This week went by surprisingly fast actually and we’re definitely ok with that. We both have busy and fun weekends ahead of us – Reg will be in NYC visiting old friends, and Christa will be poking around NH and Mass, stopping in Portsmouth & Rockport. We’ll be trying to get some profesh photos with our nice cameras, but in the mean time, keep an eye out on our instagram!

Head-to-Toe Summer Beauty Rescues

Happy Monday back, everyone! While we’re definitely having some withdraws from our nice long weekend, we were lucky enough to spend some time outside, and maybe get a little burnt in the process (so bad, I know!!). When the seasons kick in full-throttle like this, it makes us realize how much we need to mix up our beauty routines. We’ve put together a little list to help us out, as this heat and humidity take a toll on us!

Did you guys know that tomorrow is National Rosé Day?? We’re awfully excited, because nothing says “I’m a fancy person enjoying this delightful weather” quite the way a nice cold crisp glass of rosé does. Enjoy, and have a great weekend, everyone!

YUP sounds about right…
