Ohhhh my goodness, this week has been insane! Not only has work been a  hot mess, but yesterday I went across the street to the laundry mat and realized it was closed. PERMANENTLY. I mean come on man, what is that? Considering I live in a city with no car, I was pretty distraught, I’m not gonna lie. But you know what made me feel better? The glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel — I get to have a long weekend at a beach house with Christa and friends! And you know what goes well with lounging on the beach? REGGAE MUSIC.

Sweet Beats // June 2015

I must say, I was very excited when I went online last night to see that Leon Bridges had finally released his first album. A few months back I heard a couple EPs and was totally swooning. He was pretty much plucked out of 1956 and I’m so into it. I decided to make an entire playlist based on a similar sound — retro, soul, funk, doo-wop, with a tiny bit of grit at times. The timing is perfect because this coming Saturday, Christa will be having a house-warming party in her new digs, and I’m thinking this list will be perfect while we’re getting things set up.

Click here for the link on Spotify, and have a happy hump day!

Band Profile // Cheerleader

CHEERLEADER

Have you guys heard of Cheerleader? If not, it’s time you oughta. We may be a little biased because they’re some of our best friends, but for real, their sound is just what you want on a sunny day. Known for their hazy indie pop tunes, they’ve been landing them some serious internet play, and have recently been featured on some of our favorite sites like Refinery29’s New Music September Nylon Magazine’s Band Crush.

Joe (middle) & Chris (2nd to the left) went to high school with the two of us in CT, and were biffies with Christa’s boyfriend Curtis long before she and him even began dating. Over the years they’ve been in all sorts of bands, and now Cheerleader is really crushing it. These gents just keep doing what they love, and it’s paying off.

Based out of Philly, they’re currently touring the North East — so if you have a chance to see them, we highly recommend it! They’re heading to NYC & Boston at the end of the month, but you can check out the other tour dates and locations here. Also make sure to take a look at their recent adds to iTunes!

Sweet Beats // July 2014

These next couple of weekends are going to involve a whole lot of lounging in the great outdoors. This coming Friday Christa and I are heading up her to family’s home in rural New Hampshire, and the following weekend we’ll be hanging with old friends on the beach in Old Lyme, CT. Sometimes when things are this relaxed, I just want some twangy bluesy folky goodness to accompany me.

If you’re in the same boat as myself, click here to enjoy.
