We Heart Waffles

gm_HeartWaffles_1.jpg

Nothing says “I love you” more than sharing a delicious brunch with your boo! Especially if it’s heart shaped, and can be eaten in bed. *Well, technically it could be, but we don’t recommend it 🙂

gm_HeartWaffles_3.jpggm_HeartWaffles_4.jpg

So the best part about these little cuties are that they’re super easy to make!

All you’ll need is a waffle iron & heart shaped cookie cutter (I used 2 sizes!) in addition to your ingredients.

Ingredients for Heart Shaped Waffles (ps – this is also our beloved pancake recipe, you just alter the amount of milk used – so easy!)

1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
2 tbsp sugar
2 tsp baking powerd
3/4 tsp salt
3 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 cup milk (use 1 1/3 cups milk for pancakes)
1 egg slightly beaten

Topping:
Raspberry jam (we used my Aunt Grace’s homemade jam – perfectly zingy!)
Whipped Cream, any will do. If you don’t have any canned at home, whip up a batch!

Directions:
Mix first 4 ingredients, add oil, vanilla, milk & egg. Stir just until flour is moistened. Pour batter into hot, oiled waffle iron and cook until golden brown. Once out of the waffle maker, use cookie cutter to cut out hearts. Add raspberry jam & whip cream, and eat up with your lover and/or besties!

Happy Weekend!

Happy Valentine’s Day weekend, friends! Hope you’re all staying toasty out there with the ones you love! What’re your plans for the weekend? Ours will likely involve a whole lotta flannel, because it is freezing out there! We may both attempt to go sledding, depending on the weather, because there is ANOTHER potential blizzard heading our way… I just don’t even know what to say any more.

Have a fantastic weekend! PS I want that thumb ring.

Love & Cheese

gm_HeartPizza_1

It ain’t easy being cheesy. Actually, I take that back. It’s super easy, and much advised. We here at G&M take great pride in our adoration of cheese in all regards, and embrace it to the fullest. With not just one, but TWO snow days so far this week, and with Valentine’s Day on the horizon, we figured it was the perfect opportunity for cheesy heart-shaped pepperoni pizza!

These little beauties aren’t rocket science to make, and they’re sure to make your valentine this year swoon.

gm_HeartPizza_3

Ingredients
(makes two thin-crust pizzas)

1 package of pizza dough (note — it’s easier to roll out at room temp)
3 cups shredded mozzarella
1 cup shredded parmesan
1 cup tomato sauce
1 package of turkey pepperoni
Roughly 1/2 cup flour for stretching the dough

Tools

  • Kitchen scissors
  • Rolling pin
  • Pizza pan — we’re huge fans of this perforated style pan, which will make your crust nice & crispy
  • Oil brush

To Make

Using your kitchen scissors, begin to make your roni-hearts. This will take a few minutes, so take a seat and throw on some music. Once your desired amount of roni is made, you can begin on the pizzas.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

To roll your dough (the basics, for beginner rollers):

On a flat clean counter space, disperse some flour for dough rolling. Cut your dough in half with a sharp knife. Taking one of the dough balls, put a small amount of flour around the outside of the dough. Gently pat the dough ball into an even sphere. Once rounded, use your palms to flatten it out, and your thumbs to stretch it into a small flat circle. Place your flat dough on the floured surface, and begin using your rolling pin to flatten and stretch. Be sure to alternate the sides you stretch, to get a nice even circle. Once you’ve rolled it out as much as you can, stretch the rest by hand. Putting your hands in two fists facing each other, place the center of your stretched dough on top. Starting from the center and gently working your way outward, begin stretching, moving the dough around your fists in a circular motion (be patient with this, dough is an art!) Once you’ve reached the outer edges, you can stretch the edges of the dough to let it sag in front of you. After a few minutes of stretching, your pizza should be about 12″ across. Don’t worry if it rips, you can fold it on top of itself.

To make the pizza:

  • Lightly coat your pan in a little olive oil and place your stretched dough on the pan.
  • Put a light coating of olive oil on top of the pizza, focusing on the crust, so it gets nice and golden.
  • Put a couple tablespoons of tomato sauce on the dough and evenly spread.
  • Evenly spread 1/2 of your mozz and parm onto the dough, then place your pepperonis
  • Bake for about 12 minutes until cheese is bubbling and browned
  • Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving

All done! Serve it up with a nice chilled beer and have yourself a nice cheesy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day Cocktails

gm_ValentinesCocktails

Valentine’s Day has a lot going on – gifts, dinner, drinks, romance, etc. If you’re going out to a lovely dinner, why not start your evening with a cocktail for 2? Or if you’re hanging in with your boo, let them handle the dinner while you take care of the drinks & dessert. Sounds pretty great to us!

Sweet Notes

Valentine’s Day can be the cause for an array of emotions, but if you’re sipping on that hater-ade, you have to admit, this holiday sure knows how to make a cute card. It’s pun-city up in here, and we’re soaking up every bit of it. It’s also becoming more and more apparent through the cards that we’ve seen, that these designers are total fat kids at heart, which we are so on board with. I mean… bagels, hotdogs, and butter? Don’t mind if I do.

Casual vs Glam // Valentine’s Day

gm_ValentinesOutfit_CasualGlam

Valentine’s Day can cover so many different scenarios…dating someone, sort of dating someone, not dating someone…but don’t let any of those stop you from dressing cute for whatever your situation. Whether it’s a date night, a night at home, drinks with girl friends, or a date with your couch, Valentine’s Day/Night is only as good as you make it! We’ve sort of stopped giving into the idea of what you’re “supposed” to do or wear on this holiday, and have embraced the idea of feeling comfortable and confident while you celebrate the love in your life (even if that love is yourself!).

{Casual Look} H&M blouse // H&M skinnies // Jcrew Factory Bracelet // H&M earrings // Essie nail color in Poor li’l Rich Girl // Old Navy flats

Valentine’s Day Cards // Digital Download

gm_VdayCards_3

Happy Monday everyone! We hope you had a great weekend and are getting prepped for Valentine’s Day on Friday! We’ll be giving you all sorts of posts themed for Vday, so stay tuned. Today we have some downloadable cards for you! As we mentioned before, we’re big diy-ers when it comes to cards (whether they’re crafty or computery). We stuck with the mod look, simple and chic, and hope you and your card receivers enjoy them as much as we do! They’re about post card size, so send em out, use them as gift toppers or present them like normal cards- so many possibilities!

To download these cards, click here!

* Be aware that some home printers might not print out quite as bright, so play around with paper type and ink. And if it’s not coming out quite as nice as you’ve hoped and you’re looking for something more saturated, I had mine printed at Staples on white card stock for a very low cost!
