Magical Pink Wall

Happy hump day, friends! We’re trying to brighten up this gloomy day with fun walls! If you’re in the Hartford area, you should check out these cheery murals (on the side of the road on Pope Park Highway) – there are green, purple and blue ones too!

With the weather finally cooling down, it was the perfect day to break out the clogs and a long cozy sweater. To be honest, this outfit is pretty much my uniform in the fall! I love classic neutrals with some gold jewelry and a fun shoe.

I was most excited about my DIY necklace though! I grabbed some thin leather from Michaels and tied myself a little chocker. Thinking about doing a DIY post with a couple variations of what you can do with the leather strips! Stay tuned!

Boho Picnic

gm_BohoPicnic_3

I’m on a plane to LAX for my Designer Vaca trip in Palm Springs!! SO excited! Keep an eye out on my instagram for pics from PS & Joshua Tree 🙂

Anyway, so when my friend Brittany and I were browsing Brimfield this year, we stumbled upon one of the most beautiful tents we’d seen all day – a floor to ceiling, wall to wall tent full of Kantha quilts. The price was right and we both found throws we fell in love with. The company is String Theory, and they had the most gorgeous blankets we had ever seen! (Ps they sell to Anthropologie to resell!). We each bought one and started day dreaming about how we wanted to use them – at home, for picnics, at the beach, on our beds, etc. and since the weather has been perfectly fall these past few weeks we figured it was time to give picnic-ing with our new blankets a try!

Pastel Inspiration

While visiting Reg in Boston this past weekend we popped over to The Booksmith in Brookline to kill some time before a most delicious brunch at Zaftigs. I stumbled upon the arts area and got a great deal on this gorgeous design book in the used books section (I got the mint green paged version).

I actually didn’t know it’s official title until looking it up on Amazon (Palette: 05: Pastel – New Light-Toned Graphics), and it doesn’t matter because it’s a fantastic book filled with delightful pastel design projects. It couldn’t be more fitting with Spring on it’s way! I flipped through the pages all evening, and it has got us scouring Pinterest for more pastel loveliness.

Etsy Round Up // Vol 14

Happy humpday friends! (Where’s my camel emoji when I need it?!) I can’t believe it’s the last week of February — when did that happen? To finish out the month strong, we’re back with February’s Etsy Round Up.

Although it’s cold as sh*t out there still, it’s time to start thinking (and preping) for exposed skin and warm weather outfits, hence the wishful thinking items you see below. Cheers to warm thoughts…

1 Shelf, 3 Ways

Happy Monday, loves! Hope you all had a nice weekend and were able to relax a bit!

Recently in the blog hemisphere we’ve been noticing a whole lot of posts for “one item, several ways,” be if for clothing or decor. In particular, one of our favorite little lady designers, Emily Henderson, has been all about showcasing a staple piece styled four ways, like with this credenza. We were feeling inspired by her ideas and decided to give it a go!

Below is a ladder shelf that I picked up from good ‘ol Walmart a couple of years ago to add a little more storage to my tiny kitchen — it’s proven to be very helpful for the bits and bobbles that we’ve run out of room for. We decided to give it three key looks that could work for your kitchen — the bar, a baking station, and the miscellaneous items.

Shelf:

With a big blank slate like this, it’s all about the layering. I’ll admit that I’m a bit of a hoarder when it comes to pretty little trinkets, so the layering thing was pretty easy to accomplish. 🙂

01. Baking

gm_shelf_bake_1gm_shelf_bake_2 gm_shelf_bake_3

The great thing about this ladder shelf is that it has some room for over sized items like mixing bowls and baskets, as well as the tiny knickknacks like butter dishes and mixing cups. Another crucial component to styling this guy was height and greenery. Cutting boards and vases are a great way to give the shelf the height you’re looking for, and some big leafy plants look awesome in mason jars, like this dried eucalyptus.

When making a baking station, you’ll definitely need your essentials. Hide your flours and sugars in pretty canisters, while tucking away baking powder and such in baskets. Showcase some of your fancier items like your good vanilla, and don’t be afraid to display items with some character, as we did with the aged baking pans. We also draped an apron over the edge of the shelf for a little bit of flair.

02. Bar

gm_shelf_bar_1gm_shelf_bar_2 gm_shelf_bar_3

This is a fun one to set up, because it makes you feel like an actual *gasp* adult. We’ve collected some pretty old empties for our top row, but it definitely would feel a little more impactful if you have an actual collection to show off. Throw in some of your good liquors, as well as the tools you’ll be needing, like openers, shakers, napkins, and glasses. We also made things colorful with a bowl filled with essential citrus fruits, and an aloe plant for a pop of green.

03. Everyday

gm_shelf_misc_1 gm_shelf_misc_2 gm_shelf_misc_3

So this is helpful if you’re kitchen is like mine, with a whole lot of little things in need of a home. Pots and pans will stack nicely on the bottom, as well as linens and cookbooks. Display your favorite tea boxes and layer with nice cutting boards. It’s great for the random things you have lying around, like my scallion-growing science project, and Christmas gifts from Christa like a DIY cheese-making kit.

Hope these looks were helpful for you guys, and you’re feeling inspired to get a head start on the spring cleaning! If you liked any of the above items, check out below to see where we got some of the key pieces!

Getting Organized // For the Home

Nearly everyone has “get organized” on their New Years resolution list…there’s just such a great feeling about starting the new year off feeling clean, collected and organized! It’s sort of like the precursor to Spring Cleaning. And since we live in apartments with one or more other people, the idea of personal space and organization is extra important. We’ve gathered a couple of our favorite ways to quickly spruce up your space and stay on top of things as possible!

01. Shelving

8aa2759cf23384f69943697babcfaf01

Adding shelving can do a lot to a space, whether you add it directly to the wall, or in the form of some sort of furniture. We’ve had the best luck with wall shelving from Ikea, which also allows for a ton of DIY and personalization. Shelves are perfect for finding a home for those small meaningful items that you just can’t give up, showing off personal items you might accidentally tuck away in some drawer. They add visual interest to your walls, all while adding more storage to your space. If your space is small, just work upwards!

Our favorite shelving items: The EKBY JÄRPEN from Ikea, pretty much anything from West Elm, and the Emerson Shelving from World Market are all life savers.

02. Hooks & Rods

Picture 1

Hooks are helpful for all sorts of things! Necklaces, scarves, jackets (obviously…), and even pots & pans. It’s a little nuts how much space you can clear up just by putting a few hooks or rods on the walls. Have empty space above your stove? Hang up your cookware! Jewelry always tangled? Display it on your walls by your vanity!

For some awesome hooks: Check out Crate & Barrel’s Sheesham Hooks, this classic look from Target, or Ikea’s LEKSVIK. We’ve also had some great luck at flea markets and thrift stores finding some old iron hooks.

As for rods: Add some more hanging space to your closet with Ikea’s MULIG clothes bar, and change your life with this pot rack and these s-hooks in your kitchen.

03. Baskets

2

If you want to hide clutter, baskets are the way to go — they’re probably the easiest way to do a quick sweep in your apartment. Get some big canvas ones for blankets, towels, and linens, and some small wicker ones for random toiletries, magazines, and any other random bits. Reg’s kitchen has a wire basket for fruit, so you can always see what you have.

Great basket finds: Home Goods always has a plethora to choose from, or check out H&M’s home section, and of course, the almighty Ikea.

Put a Scarf on it, Part Deux

Happy Friday, friends! We thought we’d take a quick break from our Friday Links to present to you: Put a Scarf on it, Part Deux. I bought this dress for my birthday, and had so much fun in it I had to break it out again for our holiday party. The high-low hemline was flirty and festive, and paired with my red lipstick, I was ready to roll. As previously posted, we made our way around town in our fancy holiday outfits, scarves in tow. We’re New England girls, we just love our scarves…

*Btw, I just want to give a little shoutout to those Old Navy heels. I usually have issues with heels, and these are extremely comfortable and so affordable!

Happy Weekend!

IMG_5050_HWE

We visited this gorgeous little spot, Tatte Cookies and Cakes last weekend in Brookline. It’s delicious and completely adorable, but teeny tiny – don’t expect to sit inside, there are literally 3 little tables. But if you’re in the Boston area, you should pop in for a coffee and a treat, because it’s amazing.

What’re you all up to this weekend? Maybe stop by your local coffee shop (that isn’t Starbucks…) for some tasty treats! Have a great weekend!

Etsy Round Up // Vol 10

As usual, the color scheme of these Etsy Round Up’s tend to fit with the season (accidentally!), and since we’re nearing the end of summer, my items have a little less color to them. But don’t worry, they’re just as exciting and fun as items with more vibrancy! I can definitely say I was on a vintage kick with this round up…

I tend to look at Etsy less in the summer for whatever reason, but I’m glad I’ve been keeping an eye out, because dang – there is some cute stuff going on! Take a peek at these fantastic items and hopefully someone you know has a bday soon (or you have a little treat-yo-self scenario??)…
