Graduation Outfits

No, neither of us are graduating – but you probably know a few cousins, siblings or significant others who are. This upcoming weekend in Rhode Island, Christa’s brother is graduation from Roger Williams with a degree in Architecture (yay!), and she, Curtis, her parents, and both sets of grandparents will be there to celebrate. We’ve already had to deal with the graduation dress fiasco (what to wear??), but realizing that she’ll be in almost as many pictures as the graduate, the question about what to wear has come up again.

The biggest problem is weather. You never know what you’re going to get in New England in the beginning of May. Christa’s graduation was outdoors and POURING rain, while Regina’s was a nice day, but inside. Nick’s will be outdoors under a tent, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for that the mid 70’s party cloudy forecast that we saw today. We’re breaking down a couple Graduation activity outfits for you — the actual ceremony, the afterparty and Sunday brunch with the fam — but feel free to mix and match if one outfit seems more appropriate for your event. And most importantly, layer up, fuel up (pack extra snacks and water), and sunscreen up if you’re outside, because you’re going to be there for awhile!

1 Item 3 Ways // Hooded Trench

Oh April, why are you so glum? Just a grey, wet, mess of a month you are! There’s pretty much only two things to get us through this limbo, and it’s the prospect of long summer days on the horizon and cute gear to help us through the New England downpours. That’s when the classic trench coat comes in. (*oh, and flowers – we’re cool with April showers if it brings May flowers)

Favorite Fall Footwear

shoes

Shoes. Shoes shoes. Shoes. How we love them so. They just pull an outfit together so perfectly, and fall just screams for new footwear to fall into your lives. So without further ado, I present to you my top faves for this upcoming season:

01. Oxblood Penny Loafer // These menswear inspired little numbers will have you looking sharp and classy. But you may also need to get a pipe, readers, and bow-tie to pull the look together (jk, please don’t do that).

02. Heeled Ankle Bootie // Seriously though, what was I wearing in the fall before booties came into my life? I feel like they just recently came about, and quickly became a fashion staple. Hail to the bootie!

03. Nude Flats // How adorable are those scalloped edges? #icant. Nude flats are simply a must for ladies, and pretty much work year round.

04. Classic Black Heels // I have to admit I don’t have a single pair of classic black heels. Sinful, I know. But now that I’m officially in my mid-twenties (eek), I think it’s about time I get a pair. They just make your legs and bum looks so killer. I really want to wear these with some skinny denim and a plaid button up.

05. D’Orsay Flats // One of the latest trends in the world of flats is the d’orsay. For ladies with little feet like me, they do a great job of elongating your foot a bit to make them look more proportionate to your legs. I got a similar pair to these with a mini wedge from Marshall’s that I’m stoked to wear out.

06. Tall Leather Boots // I’m getting these. It’s official. I mean, that leather. AND they’re a wide-calf. It’s been an honest struggle for me to find boots to fit around my tree-stump like calves, so I’m really hoping these work out!

Love Want Need // Clog Sandals & Bright Toes

lovewantneed_clogs&toes

We’ve become big fans of the clog trend round these parts. A coworker and I were joking the other day about how when we first saw this style around, we couldn’t help but think “orthopedic.” However, in the last couple of months retailers have done a really great job with making this style more trendy and “70s/European,” and less “granny gone wild.” To keep this style fresh, funky, and modern, pair it with a contrasting bright toe polish. This duo would look adorbz with some skinny ankle jeans or a knee-length A-line.

Have you guys been noticing any big trends these days? Fill us in!
